Local police have beefed up patrols around Gov. Phil Murphy’s upscale Middletown neighborhood after there was an attempted car theft Sunday “in close proximity” to the governor’s private home, police said. The attempted theft near the governor’s mansion along the Navesink River comes as the state has seen a double-digit increase in stolen cars last year compared to 2020, according to the Office of the Attorney General.
