German Chancellor Olaf Scholz flew out of Berlin on Thursday for an 11-hour visit to Beijing where he is to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping amid widespread criticism and keen international interest. Scholz’s meeting with Xi is the first by a Western leader since Xi’s election to an unprecedented third term in office. The chancellor is also to meet Premier Li Keqiang.
