A wet and cold Oktoberfest came to an end on Monday with visitor numbers down compared to three years ago. The coronavirus pandemic meant the traditional Munich beer extravaganza did not take place in 2020 and 2021. But hopes that crowds would return to 2019 levels did not materialize. Officials said there had been 5.7 million visitors over the two weeks, more than half a million fewer than the 6.3 million which attended in 2019.
