Frankfurt Airport saw 5.2 million passengers pass through the major German transport hub in August, 54% more than in the same month one year ago, operator Fraport reported on Tuesday. Fraport said it benefited from leisure travellers, as August traditionally marks the winding up of Europe’s summer holidays. But August’s total was still about a quarter less than in 2019, before the eruption the of the coronavirus pandemic. In July, when business was impacted by a Lufthansa strike, the number of passengers was just over 5 million, around 27% below the 2019 figure.
