Freiburg climbed into second spot for the Bundesliga mid-season break after thrashing Union Berlin 4-1 at home on Sunday thanks to Vincenzo Grifo’s first-half hat-trick. The Italian netted two penalties and finished off a counter-attack to put Freiburg four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who won 2-0 at bottom side Schalke on Saturday.
