The number of Alzheimer’s patients has risen rapidly in Germany, according to the latest official figures. Some 19,356 people nationwide were hospitalized with Alzheimer’s in 2020, according to the Federal Statistical Office. In 2000, the equivalent figure was 8,116 treatments, indicating that the number of inpatients has more than doubled within 20 years. Around 95% of patients affected in 2020 were aged 65 and over.
