French President Emmanuel Macron has called Moscow’s plans to hold ‘sham referendums’ in Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine an additional provocation. “This has no legal standing,” Macron said on Tuesday before addressing the UN General Assembly in New York. “The very idea of organizing referendums in territories that have experienced war (…) is the sign of cynicism.” Russia must leave Ukraine and respect internationally recognised borders, he said.
