Saturday’s season-opening women’s alpine skiing World Cup race in Austria has been cancelled owing to adverse weather. Organizers said that sleet and bad visibility, plus a not favourable forecast throughout the day, did not allow the giant slalom in Sölden to take place as planned. It was the first time since 2006 that the women’s race could not be held.
