Grantham Civic Society writes about the Grantham Waterworks Company annual visits. In August 1893 the directors of the Grantham Waterworks Company met to make their annual visit to the springs, reservoirs and pumping station. The reservoir at the top of Spittlegate Hill was visited first, which the manager explained consisted of eight chambers, divided into three distinct reservoirs. If any was out of action, the others could supply the town with water. The mains supply to and from the town was supplied using gravity and pumps.
