Lebanon’s parliament on Thursday failed to elect a new head of state due to lack of political consensus on a candidate, who would endeavour to steer the country out of its worst economic crisis. Incumbent President Michel Aoun’s six-year term ends on October 31. But so far, Lebanon’s sharply divided political parties have failed to find a successor and head off a political deadlock.
